Description
By Pope John Paul II
Encyclical letter of Pope John Paul II dated 30 November 1980 on the mercy of God. It presents God as the Father revealed by Christ and argues that the Church’s concern for humanity must be rooted in the Father’s love and mercy. It traces mercy through the Old Testament covenant and Christ’s ministry, using the parable of the prodigal son to show that mercy restores human dignity, and concludes that the Church must profess, practise and pray for God’s mercy in a world threatened by conflict and injustice.
