Description

By Pope Paul VI

Encyclical letter of Pope Paul VI dated 25 July 1968, addressed to the bishops, clergy and faithful of the whole Catholic world and to all people of good will. It describes the transmission of human life as a serious role in which married couples cooperate with God the Creator, and notes that population growth, economic pressures, new views on the dignity of women and growing human control over nature have raised new questions for married couples. Affirming the Church’s authority to interpret the natural moral law, it describes the commission that studied the issue and calls for a new and deeper reflection on the Church’s teaching on marriage.
