It opens with the statement that Jesus Christ is the face of the Father’s mercy and presents mercy as the bridge between God and humanity and a source of joy and peace. It explains the opening of the Holy Doors (Doors of Mercy) in Rome and in local churches and links the Jubilee to the fiftieth anniversary of the close of the Second Vatican Council.
